Finding MSI Logs for Failed Installation Attempts

In the course of a failed attempt to install the PreVeil product, MSI logs detailing the events leading to the failure are usually generated on Windows.

These logs can help PreVeil Support diagnose the cause of the installation failure and you may be asked to send them to us for analysis.

 Instructions

 

  1. Open File Explorer in Windows.

  2. In the address bar of File Explorer, please type %TEMP% and press Enter. This redirects to the path C:\Users\(Windows User Name)\AppData\Local\Temp

  3. Within this folder, you should see "MSI*.LOG" documents entitled MSI and trail of alphanumeric characters in the title. For example, MSI3cf02.

  4. Sort by date in this folder and find MSI logs with recent timestamps corresponding to the failed installation attempt(s).

  5. Hold down the left mouse button to drag and select the most recent MSI files in the folder. With several MSI logs selected, then please right-click and select Send to → Compressed (zipped) folder to generate a .ZIP file.

6. Then please attach the .ZIP file to the existing support case you have open for the installation failure at preveil.com/support.

 

If you don’t see any MSI log files in this folder, try reproducing the installation failure and checking again.
