Why do I have to re-share a folder in Drive after a non-PreVeil user signs up for a PreVeil account?
PreVeil operates on a closed-network model, meaning both sender and recipient need to have PreVeil installed and have a PreVeil account in order to exchange shared folders and mail.
This is how our end-to-end encryption works and this principle applies to both Mail and Drive.
When you attempt to share a folder in PreVeil Drive with a non-PreVeil user, they will be invited to join PreVeil with a free account. The same would happen in Mail under the same circumstance of attempting to email a non-PreVeil user.
You will be notified of the invitation and you will also be notified when they join PreVeil.
Please note:
The recipient will need to install PreVeil on their device and create an account with the email address where they received the invitation.
In Mail, your sent message will be held in the Outbox folder until your recipient signs up for a PreVeil account with the email address you used to send them the message. At that time, the message will automatically be released from the Outbox and sent to them.
The reason you need to re-share a folder in Drive after the recipient signs up for a PreVeil account is that there is no functional equivalent to the Outbox folder in Drive where a folder invite is held or queued pending your recipient getting a PreVeil account.
Instructions to re-share a folder in Drive after a recipient signs up for a PreVeil account
Select the folder you attempted to share before with the checkbox next to it in PreVeil Drive.
Type the full email address of your recipient that is now associated with a PreVeil account in the Invite field. This time, you should see an orange indicator next to this email address, meaning they are a PreVeil user.
Set the desired sharing permissions in the Permissions: drop-down menu and then click on the Share button. The recipient will now receive an invite they can accept which will add the folder to their PreVeil Drive.
Re-sharing will never result in a recipient receiving two invites to the same folder as the folder is only actually being shared the second time.
