Resolving Repeated UAC Prompts from preveil.ps1

Overview

Some users may encounter repeated User Account Control (UAC) prompts originating from the PreVeil script located at:

C:\PreVeil\daemon\penv\Lib\site-packges\daemon\scripts\preveil.ps1

This issue occurs when PreVeil Services are restarted from the Key Menu. It has been resolved in PreVeil Desktop version 5.8.13.

Symptoms

  • Continuous UAC prompts appear after restarting services from the Key Menu.

  • Prompts recur even after credentials are entered.

  • No PreVeil-related scheduled tasks are found in Task Scheduler.

Cause

Restarting services from the Key Menu in earlier PreVeil versions triggered repeated UAC elevation requests from the preveil.ps1 script.

Resolution

The issue is resolved in PreVeil Desktop version 5.8.13. Updating to this release eliminates the repeated UAC prompts.

Steps:

  1. Download the latest PreVeil Desktop version

  2. Install the update

    • Run the installer with administrative privileges.

    • Follow on-screen instructions to complete the upgrade.

  3. Verify resolution

    • Restart the workstation.

    • Confirm that UAC prompts no longer appear when restarting services from the Key Menu.

  • This procedure applies specifically to environments where restarting services from the Key Menu triggers repeated prompts.

  • If prompts persist after upgrading, collect logs and escalate to PreVeil Support for further analysis.
