Desktop PreVeil Version 5.8.16
Release Date: January 16, 2026
Applies To: Desktop PreVeil (Windows)
Summary
Desktop PreVeil 5.8.16 includes a fix for an issue where installs or upgrades could fail on systems with strict script execution controls (GPO/endpoint security), due to an expired signing certificate on the Key Menu updater script:
C:\PreVeil\key_menu\keymenu_update.ps1
Download
Go to preveil.com/download to download the installer and then run it. Note that most operating systems require administrator privileges to run installations and upgrades.
Users upgrading on Windows, view here for instructions: How to update to the latest version of desktop PreVeil.
Fix: Key Menu updater script certificate renewed
In 5.8.15, the expired certificate could cause PowerShell to block execution of the script during installation, resulting in errors such as AuthorizationManager check failed / PSSecurityException / UnauthorizedAccess, and potentially causing the installer to roll back or fail with MSI error 1603.
In 5.8.16, the certificate has been renewed so this script can execute normally again in restricted environments, restoring expected install/upgrade behavior.
Who is impacted?
This fix primarily impacts customers who use:
Group Policy “signed scripts only” enforcement
Endpoint security tools that block scripts signed with expired certificates
Antivirus tools that may flag the updater script (ex: Avast)
