PreVeil VDI System FAQ

PreVeil VDI System FAQ

Application & Software Compatibility

  • What applications come pre-installed on a PreVeil VDI?

    • PreVeil, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and all the typical applications that come with a Windows OS installation.

  • Can we load our own applications on to a PreVeil VDI?

    • Yes. Before you conclude your VDI onboarding process with us and we harden your VDI environment, we recommend installing the additional applications you will need on to your PreVeil VDIs, and use them normally for a few days while your Threatlocker AV is in learning mode, so that when your environment is hardened and Threatlocker is locked down, it will not interfere with those additional installed applications.

  • How do we add custom applications to the Threatlocker allowed apps list after the VDI environment has been hardened?

    • Once Threatlocker has been locked down, you can still add additional applications to its allowed list by way of putting a device into Learning Mode in Threatlocker.

Licensing & Accounts

  • Does the Okta admin account require a full PreVeil license?

    • If the Okta administrator is also going to be a PreVeil user, then yes.

  • Is it best practice to use two separate accounts for VDI access vs. Okta administration?

  • Can we get a billing credit if we migrate from our current setup to the PreVeil VDI?

    • Please contact our Customer Success Team at customersuccess@preveil.com regarding any licensing or billing questions.

Connectivity & Hardware

  • Can we connect a printer to a PreVeil VDI for printing CUI documents?

    • This functionality is not available at this time.

  • What AWS Workspaces client options are available?

    • You will need to download and install the local AWS client on your computer to access the VDI environment. Mobile devices are not permitted to access the VDI or CUI

  • If we migrate to the PreVeil VDI environment, how will this affect our existing Email or SIEM Relay?

    • If you have an existing Email Relay and migrate into the PreVeil VDI environment, we will work with you to also migrate your Email Relay into that VDI environment. For SIEM Relay customers, we will be maintaining our partnership with our datacenter parter, SCI, for them to continue to host that for you at this time.

Security & Compliance

  • How can customers send email to PreVeil VDI users in a secure, compliant manner?

    • PreVeil’s end-to-end encryption requires that anyone you want to communicate with PreVeil must be a PreVeil user themselves. If they are, they can send that email directly to a PreVeil VDI user via PreVeil mail. If they are not, they can sign up for a free tier PreVeil account at web.preveil.com.

  • How are admin users structured to prevent them from accessing CUI data?

    • If an admin level user in PreVeil also needs to access CUI data, they will need to have two PreVeil accounts to do so: one account just for their admin activities, the second for any activities that involve storing or sharing CUI. See the information in this linked document for additional context on the requirements for separation of accounts: PreVeil VDI Administrator Onboarding Guide for IT Administrators

Onboarding & Training

  • Are onboarding sessions intended for all the PreVeil users in the organization, or just the admin users?

    • The onboarding sessions for the PreVeil VDI environments are intended for the admin level users in that environment.

  • Can we host the onboarding session in Microsoft Teams so that it can be recorded and provided to users that could not attend?

    • PreVeil uses Zoom for our meetings, and we record these sessions for you. If you are required to use Teams, however, you can send us an invitation to join you on a Teams call instead and you can record the session from there.

  • How do we migrate an existing PreVeil user’s account from their device into the VDI environment?

    • To migrate an existing user into the VDI environment, please use the steps found here: Add a Device.
