With the release of the 4.0.7 version of PreVeil, we have included functionality to generate a recovery code with your PreVeil encryption key information. This recovery code can be used to regain access to your account if something were to happen to your existing encryption key. If you are on version 4.0.7 or higher, you will have the ability to generate this recovery code for your account.

Generating a Recovery Code
In a PreVeil browser window, mouse over Settings in the upper right-hand corner, and then click on Recovery Code.
You can create an optional password to protect the recovery code file if you choose. Then click the Create Recovery File button.
Save the file to a location of your choosing.

We recommend saving a copy of the file somewhere other than on the computer where you have access to PreVeil. |
The recovery code file saves as a PDF, so you also have the option to print out a copy for yourself.

Note: The ability to recover the key on a computer is available if you have version 4.11.0 or higher of PreVeil installed. |
On the computer, open a browser.
Navigate to 127.0.0.1:4003/backup-recovery.
Open the recover code PDF file, and copy the recovery code string located there.
Paste that string into the Recovery Code Text box in the browser, and click on the Restore button to rebuild your PreVeil encryption key and regain access to your account.
Recovering on a Mobile Device
On your phone or tablet, open the PreVeil app.
If you don’t already have the app on your phone or tablet, you can download it from the app store. We support both iOS and Android mobile platforms.
Click on Add Existing Account.
Click on Use Backup File.
If prompted, allow the PreVeil app to access your camera.
Scan the QR code from your recovery file, and it will transfer a copy of your key to your phone and allow you to access your account.
Deleting a Recovery Code
In a PreVeil browser window, mouse over Settings in the upper right-hand corner, and then click on Recovery Code.
Click on Delete.
