The new cloud-edit feature is designed to allow users to edit files stored in PreVeil even when they are not synced to the local device. The description below gives a description of how to use the feature and provides some tips and limitations.

 Prerequisite:

 While cloud-edit is supported on release 4.22.0, the Windows version of this feature requires that the user install an external package for the functionality to work (Note that this is not required for the Mac version).

  1. Download the Handle application from https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/handle. The download hyperlink may be found after the table of contents and at the end.

  2. Locate the handle.zip file, open it, and extract it.

  3. Go to the extracted folder.

  4. There will be three choices for handle.exe based on system type.
    If you are on Windows 10 check your System type by opening the start menu, type about, click About your PC, and see System type.

The handle.exe is the 3264-bit binary for Windows systems (most users).
The handle64.exe is the 64-bit x86 binary for 64-bit Windows systems (most users).
The handle64a.exe is the binary for Windows systems running on ARM-based hardware.

After agreeing to the license agreement, the Command Prompt window will quickly scroll through installation operations and close. There will not be a signature that it is finished it will simply close.

  1. Cut and paste the chosen handle.exe file to the C:\Windows\System32 folder. Note that this move will require administrator permission.

 At this point the user will be able to use the cloud edit feature

As stated above, when a file is closed it will be unlocked and synced to the PreVeil cloud.

 Application Notes:

 As stated earlier, for the feature to work on Windows, the user has to install the handle.exe file as stated in the “Prerequisite” section above.

  • Supported file types: Most common file types that can be opened by a user are supported. Here is a list of types not supported. Please contact support@preveil.com if you find that a particular filetype is not supported.that are supported
