Prior to configuring Thunderbird, please access your PreVeil account in a browser, click on the Settings wheel icon in the upper right-hand corner, then select Add to Mail Client. Then scroll down and click on the Click here for instructions to manually add PreVeil to other email programs (Outlook on Mac, etc.) This page will have information you’ll need for some of the configuration steps below.
Open Thunderbird.
Select Tools, and then Account Settings.
Select Account Actions, and then Add Mail Account.
Enter your name, email address, and the password value that you can get from the Add to Mail Client page in the PreVeil browser app (as described above at the beginning of this article) in the respective fields. Make sure the checkbox to Remember password is selected, and then click on Configure manually.
In the Manual configuration section for this account, you’ll fill out the fields as follows:
Incoming Server
Protocol: IMAP
Hostname: 127.0.0.1
Port: 4000
Connection security: None
Authentication method: Normal password
Username: the email address associated with your PreVeil account, this field should already be filled with that information.
Outgoing Server
Hostname: 127.0.0.1
Port: 4001
Connection security: None
Authentication method: Normal password
Username: the email address associated with your PreVeil account, this field should already be filled with that information.
When all fields have been configured, click Done.
You may get the following pop-up message. If you do, select the I understand the risks checkbox, and then click on Confirm.
Your emails sent via the PreVeil mailbox in Thunderbird will still be encrypted, however the PreVeil encryption is proprietary and not one of the options listed in Thunderbird when configuring the PreVeil mailbox. The encryption for your emails will be handled by PreVeil instead.
