Accessing Drive

You can access PreVeil Drive from File Explorer or a browser. We support Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or IE 11.

You can get to your locally synced Drive folder in File Explorer directly from the Key Menu, or use the desktop shortcut to open PreVeil in the browser.

You can also access PreVeil Drive in your browser by going to preveil.com/app and clicking the Drive tab at the top of the page.

Your PreVeil Drive folder can be found in File Explorer under your home directory. You can access your Drive folder directly in File Explorer using the key menu. Just click on the folder icon to open.

Your PreVeil Drive folder is also automatically added to your Favorites/Quick Access sidebar for easier access.

When you use PreVeil Drive for the first time, there will be no folders in the My PreVeil list on the browser or in your PreVeil Drive folder in File Explorer.

Creating a new folder

In order to start sharing files with others, you'll need to create folders where those files will be uploaded. You can create new folders on either your browser or local hard drive.

In the Browser

Navigate to Drive through the key menu or by clicking on the "Drive" tab in the browser. The My PreVeil page displays. There will be no folders in the My PreVeil list when you first log onto Drive, so click the Create New Folder icon.

You will see a field that says New Folder Name.

Click this field and give your folder a name, then press the Enter key. You will see a green success message box if the folder is created.

The orange arrow is pointing to the folder icon next to the folder name, which is solid blue. This indicates that the folder is not shared.

You can also create a new folder in File Explorer as you would normally for all local files & folders. Your Drive folder is located in your home directory.

In File Explorer

Navigate to your PreVeil Drive folder in File Explorer.

Open the PreVeil folder and create a new folder as normal.

The newly created folder will show one of the badges on the left. A green badge indicates the folder is fully synced with the server; a blue badge indicates that the syncing is in progress.

You cannot create/upload files or folders that have the same name as folders or files already in your PreVeil folder.

Upload files to Drive

Adding your files and folders to PreVeil Drive is simple. You can upload files to PreVeil Drive by dragging and dropping them into your browser or the PreVeil Drive folder in File Explorer. Any files and folders that you add to PreVeil Drive will be accessible from your other computers and from the PreVeil app on mobile devices.

In the Browser

Navigate to PreVeil Drive in the browser, then either drag and drop your files or click the “+ Upload” button.

A pop-up window will open. Browse to the folder that contains the file(s) you wish to upload, then select “Open” to upload your file(s).

In File Explorer

Navigate to your Drive folder on your device. Drag and drop, or save the files directly to the folder using normal methods.

Any files or folders you add to PreVeil Drive will show one of the following badges in File Explorer:

 

To reverse the process and download files or folders from PreVeil Drive to one of your other folders or directories in File Explorer, drag and drop or copy and paste the folders/files like you would do between non-PreVeil directories.

Sharing files and folders

To share a folder with another PreVeil user in File Explorer, right-click on a folder within PreVeil Drive and select “Share.” This action opens a new browser tab that takes you directly to the Share window.

You can also share a folder directly from the browser. To share a folder with another PreVeil user, select the folder by either checking the box next to the folder name or clicking the folder line outside of the folder name.

The Share window opens to the right of the folder list. Click the orange Share button to invite recipients.

Enter the recipient’s email address and press Enter. Select what Permissions you would like to assign them from the drop-down menu. Click the orange Share button.

Edit & Share: The user may edit documents contained within the shared folder and share that folder with other users.

Edit: The user may edit documents contained within the shared folder but cannot share the folder with other users.

Read Only: The user may only read and download the document. The user cannot make any changes to the shared folder.

When a folder is shared, the recipient receives an invitation in their PreVeil inbox and the folder icon changes to

 indicating it is a shared folder.

Accepting a shared folder invitation

When someone shares a folder with you through PreVeil, you will receive an email notification in PreVeil that looks like this:

Click the appropriate button, which will bring you to the Invitations tab in your Drive.

Click the Accept button. A green banner indicating you have successfully accepted the invitation will appear.

Then, navigate to the My PreVeil tab. The shared folder will now be visible. Click to open and interact with the folder.

Selective Sync

This new feature allows you to unsync a folder from your local Drivecomputer, freeing up space on your C: local hard drive. To unsync a folder, select the folder to open the folder settings. Then, toggle the Sync to devices button off. This will unsync and delete the locally stored folder and it’s contentsits contents. To resync the folder locally, simply reverse these steps.

Selective sync is currently limited to shared folders only. To trick PreVeil into thinking a folder is shared, If you’d like to remove local syncing for an unshared folder, simple share the folder with another PreVeil user (or support@preveil.com), then unshare the folder with that user. The folder will still be seen as “shared” by the system, but no one else will have access to it.
