Accessing Drive
You can access PreVeil Drive from File Explorer or a browser. We support Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or IE 11.
Creating a new folder
In order to start sharing files with others, you'll need to create folders where those files will be uploaded. You can create new folders on either your browser or local hard drive.
In the Browser
Info |
---|
The orange arrow is pointing to the folder icon next to the folder name, which is solid blue. This indicates that the folder is not shared. |
You can also create a new folder in File Explorer as you would normally for all local files & folders. Your Drive folder is located in your home directory.
In File Explorer
Info |
---|
You cannot create/upload files or folders that have the same name as folders or files already in your PreVeil folder. |
Upload files to Drive
Adding your files and folders to PreVeil Drive is simple. You can upload files to PreVeil Drive by dragging and dropping them into your browser or the PreVeil Drive folder in File Explorer. Any files and folders that you add to PreVeil Drive will be accessible from your other computers and from the PreVeil app on mobile devices.
In the Browser
A pop-up window will open. Browse to the folder that contains the file(s) you wish to upload, then select “Open” to upload your file(s).
In File Explorer
To reverse the process and download files or folders from PreVeil Drive to one of your other folders or directories in File Explorer, drag and drop or copy and paste the folders/files like you would do between non-PreVeil directories.
Sharing files and folders
To share a folder with another PreVeil user in File Explorer, right-click on a folder within PreVeil Drive and select “Share.” This action opens a new browser tab that takes you directly to the Share window.
You can also share a folder directly from the browser. To share a folder with another PreVeil user, select the folder by either checking the box next to the folder name or clicking the folder line outside of the folder name.
The Share window opens to the right of the folder list. Click the orange Share button to invite recipients.
Enter the recipient’s email address and press Enter. Select what Permissions you would like to assign them from the drop-down menu. Click the orange Share button.
Info |
---|
Edit & Share: The user may edit documents contained within the shared folder and share that folder with other users. Edit: The user may edit documents contained within the shared folder but cannot share the folder with other users. Read Only: The user may only read and download the document. The user cannot make any changes to the shared folder. |
When a folder is shared, the recipient receives an invitation in their PreVeil inbox and the folder icon changes to
indicating it is a shared folder.
Accepting a shared folder invitation
When someone shares a folder with you through PreVeil, you will receive an email notification in PreVeil that looks like this:
Click the appropriate button, which will bring you to the Invitations tab in your Drive.
Click the Accept button. A green banner indicating you have successfully accepted the invitation will appear.
Then, navigate to the My PreVeil tab. The shared folder will now be visible. Click to open and interact with the folder.
Selective Sync
This feature allows you to unsync a folder from your computer, freeing up space on your local hard drive. To unsync a folder, select the folder to open the folder settings. Then, toggle the Sync to devices button off. This will delete the locally stored folder and its contents. To resync the folder locally, simply reverse these steps.
Info |
---|
Selective sync is currently limited to shared folders only. If you’d like to remove local syncing for an unshared folder, simple share the folder with another PreVeil user (or support@preveil.com), then unshare the folder with that user. The folder will still be seen as “shared” by the system, but no one else will have access to it. |
