Accessing Drive
You can access PreVeil Drive from Finder or a browser. We recommend Chrome or Firefox.
To directly access Drive in Finder, click the folder icon in the key menu (in the menu bar).
You will see your PreVeil Drive folder in Finder under your home directory. It is also automatically added to your Favorites sidebar for easier access.
You can also access PreVeil Drive in your browser by going to preveil.com/app and clicking the Drive tab at the top of the page.
When you use PreVeil Drive for the first time, there will be no folders in the My PreVeil list on the browser or in your PreVeil Drive folder in Finder.
Now you are ready to add files and folders to your PreVeil Drive.
Creating a new folder in the browser app
In order to start sharing files with others, you'll need to create folders where those files will be uploaded. You can create new folders on either your browser or local hard drive.
Navigate to Drive through the key menu or by clicking on the "Drive" tab in the browser. The My PreVeil page displays. There will be no folders in the My PreVeil list when you first log onto Drive, so click the Create New Folder icon.
You will see a field that says New Folder Name.
Click this field and give your folder a name, then press the Enter key. You will see a green success message box if the folder is created.
The orange arrow is pointing to the folder icon next to the folder name, which is solid blue. This indicates that the folder is not shared.
You can also create a new folder in Finder as you would normally for all local files & folders. Your Drive folder is located in your home directory.
Creating a new folder on desktop
Navigate to your PreVeil Drive folder in Finder.
Open the PreVeil folder and create a new folder as normal.
The newly created folder will show one of the following badges:
A blue badge indicates that the syncing is in progress.
A green badge indicates the folder is fully synced with the server.
You cannot create/upload files or folders that have the same name as folders or files already in your PreVeil folder.
Upload files to Drive
Adding your files and folders to PreVeil Drive is simple. You can upload files to PreVeil Drive by dragging and dropping them into your browser or the PreVeil Drive folder in Finder. Any files and folders that you add to PreVeil Drive will be accessible from your other computers and from the PreVeil app on mobile devices.
In Finder:
Navigate to your Drive folder on your device. Drag and drop, or save the files directly to the folder using normal methods.
The newly created folder will show one of the following badges:
A blue badge indicates that the syncing is in progress.
A green badge indicates the folder is fully synced with the server.
To reverse the process and download files or folders from PreVeil Drive to one of your other folders or directories in Finder, drag and drop or copy and paste the folders/files like you would do between non-PreVeil directories.
In the browser:
Navigate to PreVeil Drive in the browser, then either drag and drop your files or click the “+ Upload” button.
A pop-up window will open. Browse to the folder that contains the file(s) you wish to upload, then select “Open” to upload your file(s).
Sharing folders
In PreVeil Drive, you can only share a folder with other PreVeil users. To share a folder with another PreVeil user, select the folder by either checking the box next to the folder name or clicking the folder line outside of the folder name.
The Share window opens to the right of the folder list. Click the orange Share button to invite recipients.
You can also right-click on a file or folder in Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (Windows) and click “Share”. This action opens a new browser tab that takes you directly to the Share window.
Enter the PreVeil recipient’s email address, then select what permissions you would like to assign them from the drop-down menu and click the orange Share button.
When a folder is shared, the recipient receives an invitation in their PreVeil inbox and the folder icon changes to,
indicating it is a shared folder.
If you would like to go back and share with more PreVeil users, select the folder you would like to share and click the orange Share button.
A sub-window will open with a list of the people who have access to the folder. Click on "+ Add more people" to invite new users.
Once you share a folder with someone, an invitation email is sent to the recipient’s PreVeil inbox. The recipient will also be able to see the folder in their Drive "Invitations" list until they accept or decline the invitation.
To view all of your shared folders, including those owned by other users, navigate to the "Shared" list in your browser sidebar.
Notes on sharing:
If a folder is shared, any newly created subfolders inherit the same sharing properties as the folder.
When you share a folder with a group of users, they all get the same access permissions. If you want different users to have different access permissions for the same folder, simply repeat the sharing process for each group of users with the desired access permissions.
If you share a folder with a user who does not have PreVeil, they will be automatically invited to join for free via email.
Files cannot be shared individually, they must be placed in a folder and the folder must be shared.
Accepting Drive invitations
When another PreVeil user shares a folder with you from their PreVeil Drive, you will receive an email inviting you to collaborate with them.
The email looks like this:
Click either the I'm on a computer or the I'm on a phone or tablet button to access your PreVeil account and accept the invitation.
When you click the appropriate button in the email, you are taken to your PreVeil account, specifically to the Invitations page on the Drive tab.
Find the shared folder and click the Accept button.
You can then find the shared folder in your Shared tab in the sidebar as well as in the My PreVeil tab. All folders that are shared with you by other PreVeil users appear on this page.
The Status of the folder shows that it is in your PreVeil Drive (My PreVeil).
Click My PreVeil in the sidebar.
Notice that the shared folder has a different icon from the folders that you created on your Drive. The folder is also listed with a Type of Shared Folder.
The shared folder is also synced to your desktop, and you will see it on your PreVeil Drive in Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder.
Deleting folders
Delete a folder from Drive by selecting the check box to the left of the folder and clicking the Delete Selected button in the tool bar. The button looks like this:
When you delete a folder that has not been shared, the following message appears:
Click Yes to permanently delete the folder and its contents.
When you delete a folder from Drive that you have shared, the following message appears:
Click Yes.
The folder and its contents are not deleted. However, they are no longer available from your My PreVeil page.
When a folder is not available from your My PreVeil page, it is not synced to your desktop or visible in Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder.
Go to your Shared page to view the folder.
If you want to add it back to your My PreVeil page, click the Add button. The following message appears at the top of the page:
The folder is again available from your My PreVeil page.
