Using PreVeil Drive on Mac

Accessing Drive

You can access PreVeil Drive from Finder or a browser. We support Chrome, Firefox, and the new Microsoft Edge.

Your locally synced PreVeil Drive folder can be found in Finder under your user directory. You can also access your Drive folder directly in Finder using the key menu. Just click on the folder icon to open.

Additionally, you can access PreVeil Drive in your browser by going to preveil.com/app and clicking the Drive tab at the top of the page.

Since your PreVeil Drive folder is not automatically added to your Favorites sidebar in Finder, we recommend dragging there for easy future access.

When you use PreVeil Drive for the first time, there will be no folders in the My PreVeil list on the browser or in your PreVeil Drive folder in Finder.

Creating a new folder

In order to start sharing files with others, you'll need to create folders where those files will be uploaded. You can create new folders on either your browser or local hard drive.

In the Browser app:

Navigate to Drive through the key menu or by clicking on the "Drive" tab in the browser. The My PreVeil page displays. There will be no folders in the My PreVeil list when you first log onto Drive, so click the Create New Folder icon.

You will see a field that says New Folder Name.

Click this field and give your folder a name, then press the Enter key. You will see a green success message box if the folder is created.

The orange arrow is pointing to the folder icon next to the folder name, which is solid blue. This indicates the folder is not shared.

You can also create a new folder in Finder as you would normally for all local files & folders. Your Drive folder is located in your home directory.

In Finder:

Navigate to your PreVeil Drive folder in Finder.

Open the PreVeil folder and create a new folder as normal.

The newly created folder will show one of the following badges:

A blue badge indicates that the syncing is in progress.

A green badge indicates the folder is fully synced with the server.

You cannot create/upload files or folders that have the same name as folders or files already in your PreVeil folder.

Uploading files to Drive

Adding your files and folders to PreVeil Drive is simple. You can upload files to PreVeil Drive by dragging and dropping them into your browser or the PreVeil Drive folder in Finder. Any files and folders that you add to PreVeil Drive will be accessible from your other computers and from the PreVeil app on mobile devices.

In the browser:

Navigate to PreVeil Drive in the browser, then either drag and drop your files or click the “+ Upload” button.

A pop-up window will open. Browse to the folder that contains the file(s) you wish to upload, then select “Open” to upload your file(s).

In Finder:

Navigate to your Drive folder on your device. Drag and drop, or save the files directly to the folder using normal methods.

Any files or folders you add to PreVeil Drive will show same badges as when creating new folders. The blue badge indicates that encryption and uploading is in progress, and the green badge indicates the folder has been successfully encrypted and uploaded to the cloud.

To reverse the process and download files or folders from PreVeil Drive to one of your other folders or directories in Finder, drag and drop or copy and paste the folders/files like you would do between non-PreVeil directories.

Sharing files and folders

To share a folder with another PreVeil user through Finder, right-click on a folder within PreVeil Drive and select “Share.” This action opens a new browser tab that takes you directly to the Share window.

You can also share a folder directly from the browser. To share a folder with another PreVeil user, select the folder by either checking the box next to the folder name or clicking the folder line outside of the folder name.

The Share window opens to the right of the folder list. Click the orange Share button to invite recipients.

Enter the recipient’s email address and press Enter. Select which Permissions you would like to assign them from the drop-down menu. Click the orange Share button.

When a folder is shared, the recipient receives an invitation in their PreVeil inbox and the folder icon changes to indicate it is a shared folder.

Accepting Drive invitations

When another PreVeil user shares a folder with you from their PreVeil Drive, you will receive an email inviting you to collaborate with them.

When someone shares a folder with you through PreVeil, you will receive an email notification in PreVeil that looks like this:

Click the appropriate button, which will bring you to the Invitations tab in your Drive.

Click the Accept button. A green banner indicating you have successfully accepted the invitation will appear.

You can then find the shared folder in your Shared tab in the sidebar as well as in the My PreVeil tab. All folders that are shared with you by other PreVeil users appear on this page.

The Status of the folder shows that it is in your PreVeil Drive (My PreVeil).

Then, navigate to the My PreVeil tab. The shared folder will now be visible. Click to open and interact with the folder.

Notice that the shared folder has a different icon from the folders that you created on your Drive. The folder is also listed with a Type of Shared Folder.

The shared folder is also synced to your desktop, and you will see it on your PreVeil Drive in Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder.

Deleting folders in Drive

Delete a folder from Drive by selecting the check box to the left of the folder and clicking the Delete Selected button in the tool bar. The button looks like this:

When you delete a folder that has not been shared, the following message appears:

Click Yes to permanently delete the folder and its contents.

When you delete a folder from Drive that you have shared, the following message appears:

Click Yes.

The folder and its contents are not deleted. However, they are no longer available from your My PreVeil page.

Go to your Shared page to view the folder.

If you want to add it back to your My PreVeil page, click the Add button. The following message appears at the top of the page:

The folder is again available from your My PreVeil page.

Selective Sync

This feature allows you to unsync a folder from your computer, freeing up space on your local hard drive. To unsync a folder, select the folder to open the folder settings. Then, toggle the Sync to devices button off. This will delete the locally stored folder and its contents. To resync the folder locally, simply reverse these steps.
