Common Causes

  • Outlook is open.

  • Outlook is closed, but an Outlook component is still running in Windows Task Manager.

  • Potential Microsoft Teams blocker.

  • Outlook was installed from the Windows Store app.

This error message occurs when trying to add PreVeil to Outlook on Windows:

Outlook Is Open

  • Outlook needs to be closed for out integration automation to work. If Outlook is open when you try the integration, please close Outlook and try again.

Outlook is closed, but an Outlook component is still running in Windows Task Manager

Even when you close Outlook, an underlying component of it may still be running in Windows Task Manager. To check for this:

  • Right click on the Windows icon in the menu bar and select Task Manager from the list.

  • Make sure you are filtering in the Name field so that the entries on the list are in alphabetical order. Scroll down into the Background Processes section and see if there’s an entry for Microsoft Outlook there.

  • If there is, right click on the entry and select End task.

  • Go back and try the integration again.

Potential Microsoft Teams blocker

On occasion, Microsoft Teams may also block our integration automation. If you have Microsoft Teams running on your computer, close out of it and try the integration again.

Outlook was installed from the Microsoft Store app

When Outlook is installed from the Microsoft Store app on your computer, it may not place a needed applet on your computer for us to be able to integrate with Outlook. To check for this:

  • In the Windows search bar, type in the words control panel. Select the Control Panel option from the results.

  • If the View by field is set to Category, select either Large icons or Small icons from the drop down menu.

  • If this option for Mail (Microsoft Outlook) is missing from the options, this could indicate that Outlook was installed from the Microsoft Store app on your computer.

If this applet is missing, it prevents the integration of PreVeil Mail with Outlook. To resolve this:

  1. Go to the Windows search icon/bar on your taskbar.

  2. Type in appwiz.cpl and hit Enter.

  3. In the Programs and Features box, locate the Microsoft Office option located there.

  4. Right click on it and select Uninstall.

  5. Go to the Microsoft download site and download the Office installer package from there.

  6. Reinstall Office on your computer via that installer package. This will require access to your Microsoft Office license key to complete.

  7. Go to the Windows search icon/bar on your taskbar.

  8. Type in Control Panel and hit Enter.

  9. Confirm that there is a Mail applet there (as shown in the screenshot above).

  10. If it is now there, try the integration of PreVeil Mail with Outlook again.
