What is a Conflict File in PreVeil Drive?

Conflict files are generated by PreVeil Drive when two or more users attempt to edit a shared file simultaneously without File Lock enabled.

For example, let’s say you have two users editing a file at the same time. The user who finishes their edits first and saves the file will have their changes saved to the original file. However, when the second user editing the same file at the same time saves their changes, those changes will go into a new file with the conflict label appended to the end of the file name. This will take the form of conflict (0), conflict (1), etc.

It is possible (and recommended) to lock a file in Drive to prevent the generation of these conflict files during times when multiple users may edit the same file simultaneously.

This functionality is available via a Lock button in a file’s details pane for files that are in shared folders in Drive.

The File Lock feature is not available in files in unshared folders, or just stand alone files in Drive. This is because such files are unshared and private by design, meaning only the owner of those files would have the ability to edit them in the first place.
