Install and create your PreVeil account on Android

This topic covers instructions for installing PreVeil and creating an account on an Android device for the first time. If you already have a PreVeil account on another device, read about transferring an existing PreVeil account to a new device.

PreVeil is available from the Google Play Store here.

1 . Download the free PreVeil app and open it. You can open it from the screen shown to the right, or by tapping the PreVeil icon in the apps on your device.

2. A Get Started screen displays. Tap the "Create New Account" button at the bottom of the screen.

3. When presented with the next screen, enter the email address* you want to use to establish your account. If you do not see a keyboard, tap in the text field, and one should pop up at the bottom of the screen.

4. Tap "Continue" and then enter your first and last name on the following screen and tap "Continue" again.

An email is sent to this address to verify your identity.

Since the PreVeil account that gets created is permanently associated with this email address, it is important that personal PreVeil accounts be created with personal email addresses (not work email addresses).

You do not have to enter a password to create a PreVeil account. Your private key is your password. This makes for a much more secure account because:

No one can steal your key--it's never stored on a server
The encryption key is random and lengthy--it cannot be guessed
Keys are unique and not recycled--it's yours and yours alone

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to verify your email address.

You must verify your account from the same device that you used to create the account.

6. Open your regular email inbox and locate the email from PreVeil. Check your spam folder if you can’t find it in your inbox. Tap the I'm on a phone or tablet button.

7. Once you verify your email address, you will be brought to your new secure inbox. Tap "Allow" or "Don't Allow" as preferred when prompted about notifications.

8. The PreVeil account on your Android device opens to your new PreVeil Inbox where you will see a Welcome email. Tap the email header to open it.

It's important that once your PreVeil account is activated on your Android device, you configure your recovery settings. Without a Recovery Group configured, if you only have your account on one device and you delete PreVeil or lose your device, you will permanently lose access to all the data in your account.
