Diagnose PreVeil Drive Sync Issues with the CLI Doctor Tool
Have trouble keeping your files in sync with PreVeil Drive? This guide will show you how to use the built-in doctor tool to identify any sync issues.
Requirements:
You must be using PreVeil Drive version 4.15.1 or higher.
Using the Doctor Tool:
Open Command Prompt (Windows) or Terminal (Mac): Locate and launch the appropriate application for running commands on your system.
Navigate to the PreVeil File Sync Directory:
Windows: Type
cd c:\preveil\filesync
and press Enter.Mac: Type
cd /Applications/PreVeil/filesync
and press Enter.
Run the Doctor Tool: Execute the following command, replacing
{your_preveil_address}
with your actual PreVeil account address:.\preveil_client doctor {your_preveil_address}
Interpreting the Results:
"All items are synced" - Congratulations! Your PreVeil Drive is functioning properly and all your files are in sync.
"Error" with Sync Count: This indicates there are sync problems. The output will display the number of successfully synced items and the number of items with errors.
Top-Level Folder: The doctor tool will pinpoint the top-level folder where the sync issues reside. This helps narrow down the problematic area.
Troubleshooting Sync Issues:
Isolating the Problem Folder: If the doctor tool identifies a folder with sync errors, you can further diagnose the problem file by using the
-p
flag:.\preveil_client doctor -p {path/to/folder}
Replace
{path/to/folder}
with the specific folder path indicated by the initial doctor tool output.
Surround the path with double quotes (“) when using a path containing spaces in any folder name.
For example,"C:\Users\PreVeil\PreVeil-desi@acme-e2ee.com\Project Folder\April 2024".
Drilling Down: If the problematic file resides within subfolders, the doctor tool will guide you by suggesting the next subfolder to investigate. Rerun the command with the new subfolder path to pinpoint the exact file.
Understanding the Error Message: Once you've identified the problematic file, the doctor tool's output might provide information about the reason behind the sync failure. This can help you determine further troubleshooting steps.
Additional Notes:
The doctor tool offers various flags for more advanced users. You can access the list of available flags by running
.\preveil_client doctor -h
or.\preveil_client doctor --help
.If you encounter persistent sync issues after using the doctor tool, consider contacting PreVeil support for further assistance.
