Why don’t I have to type in a PreVeil password? Is my account still protected?
The PreVeil system uses private keys for each user (stored on their phones and computers) to provide access to the system. These private keys are used to decrypt document keys (which are used to decrypt documents and email messages) that are stored on the server. Without the correct private key, documents cannot be read.
These private keys are much more complex than any password; they’re equivalent to a number with dozens of digits, and are virtually impossible to guess with today’s computing power.
Passwords are often guessable by knowledgeable attackers, resulting in weaker security. Furthermore, most users really hate password proliferation – the need to invent, remember, and periodically change different passwords for different services.
Thus, PreVeil’s system of private keys instead of passwords provides both more security and more convenience.
